Guwahati, Nov 13: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday asserted that the security and demographic realities in Assam are fundamentally different from those in Delhi, responding to discussions emerging after the recent blast in the national capital.
Speaking to reporters after a Cabinet meeting, Sarma said Assam’s challenges stem from its unique demographic composition. “The situation in Assam is very different. The population you are referring to — around 1.3 crore — is not like Delhi, where it may be 5 or 10 lakh. In our districts, the same people are the majority, and we are the minority. So the challenges here are very different,” he said.

He noted that demographic shifts in several districts have created a complex scenario. “In Guwahati, there are only those people and no one else. Our challenge for the next 10 years will be very different. In Assam, those people are in the driving seat — thousands of doctors, engineers, contractors, journalists. So, Assam’s situation is completely different and cannot be compared to Delhi,” Sarma said.
The Chief Minister further claimed that Assamese Hindus have become dependent on others for shelter in parts of the state. “They are the owners of the shelter in Assam. Assamese Hindus take shelter from them in Gorbetta, South Salmara and other districts. They are the owners in 12–13 districts,” he remarked, stressing that Assam’s demographic situation demands “a different kind of thinking and strategy.”

Reaffirming his earlier allegation against Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi, Sarma said he stood firmly by his claim linking Gogoi to Pakistan.
“I stand by my allegation. That is not an allegation but a factual position. She routinely used to visit Pakistan and supplied documents to Pakistan-based citizens. Many things will be revealed in our SIT report. I don’t say anything without factual evidence in my hand,” he asserted.
