Guwahati, Nov 3: In a crackdown against cyber fraud, Assam police arrested five cyber criminals in Assam’s Morigaon district on Thursday.
Police seized a huge number of forged documents from their possession.
After getting specific information, the police team launched an operation in Moirabari town of Morigaon and successfully arrested the gang.
The five criminals have been identified as Assadul Islam, Umar Saddique, Jahangir Ali, Wassim Akram and Majaharul Islam.
According to police, the five criminals were arrested on the charges of duping people on the pretext of giving them loans through online applications.
Sources said the cyber criminals are targeting a section of people by luring them many things.
“In most cases they target the people for easy loans. So far many people were fraud through such online apps,” the source added.
Meanwhile, the Assam police crime branch department has lodged many cyber frauds cases and started investigation.
Recently, three mastermind of a cyber criminal network running fake call centres in Guwahati for more than two years were arrested while 191 others hailing from different parts of the country detained.
