Guwahati, July 9: The rising water level of the Dhansiri River in the Numaligarh area of Golaghat district has taken a devastating turn, severely impacting the Morangi Mauja region.
With water levels continuing to rise, fresh areas have come under the grip of the flood.
The situation is most alarming in the Sesamukh area of Morangi, where floodwaters have been spreading rapidly since morning.
“Hundreds of families are stranded amid the flood, and along with them, hundreds of cattle are also trapped in the water.
Floodwaters have entered many homes, forcing people to evacuate to safer locations,” said an official.
In some places, banana stems have become the only means for people to navigate through the floodwaters.
So far, about 5,000 people across 22 villages in the Morangi Mauja area have been affected.
The administration has set up eight temporary relief camps where people are being sheltered safely.
Relief and rescue operations are underway, with both government authorities and agencies involved.
However, the situation continues to worsen due to the unrelenting rise in water levels, prompting demands for more active intervention from the administration to aid the flood-hit residents.
