Boko, Nov 15: In keeping with the observance of Janajatiya Gaurav Divas, the newly constructed tribal boys’ hostel at Boko Jawaharlal Nehru College was formally inaugurated on Saturday by Dr. Ranoj Pegu, Minister for Education, Welfare of Plain Tribes and Backward Classes, Government of Assam.
Alongside the inauguration, Dr. Pegu also laid the foundation stone of a new girls’ hostel within the college premises.
Both hostels have been sanctioned with an allocation of ₹1 crore each, and will accommodate 30 students respectively.
The Minister further announced that another hostel would be sanctioned in the coming days to meet future requirements.
Highlighting the significance of the project, Dr. Tapan Dutta, Principal of Boko Jawaharlal Nehru College, informed that the tribal hostel has been constructed under Article 275(1) of the Constitution of India.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Pegu emphasized the importance of introducing skill-based courses in higher education to enhance employability among students.
He also mentioned that a tripartite meeting is scheduled for December to discuss the inclusion of the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.
The event, held in conjunction with Janajatiya Gaurav Divas, was attended by faculty members, students, and dignitaries, marking a significant step towards strengthening educational infrastructure for tribal communities in the region.
