Must read

Guwahati, April 2: A young woman was allegedly assaulted by a bus conductor after boarding an Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) bus near the Badarpur Circle Office in Sribhumi district on Tuesday evening.

According to reports, the victim had visited the Badarpur Circle Officer’s office to obtain an income certificate. She boarded an ASTC bus to return home, only to find just two passengers inside.

Sensing danger, she attempted to get off, but the bus doors were shut, and the perpetrators tried to assault her. She eventually lost consciousness and was later abandoned near Sargola.

“When I boarded the bus, there were only two passengers inside. When I tried to stop the bus, one of them grabbed my hand and pushed me back. They assaulted me. Sensing danger, I sent my live location through WhatsApp to my father. After realizing this, the conductor diverted the bus to Lamajua and abandoned me there,” said the victim.

The incident triggered massive outrage, with members of the Hindu Raksha Dal blocking roads at the city’s AOC Point in protest.

“We demand the immediate arrest of the culprit. If the police fails to act, we will take the law into our own hands. The jihadis are assaulting our women after the festival of Eid. We will intensify our protest against them,” said a protestor.
