Agartala, July 6: A late-evening meeting at the royal Ujjayanta Palace on Saturday between BJP Lok Sabha MP and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and Tipra Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarma has sparked political speculation across Tripura. It came just hours after a Tipra Motha MLA threatened to withdraw support from the BJP-led government over unmet demands of the Tiprasa Accord and infiltration concerns.

Both leaders insisted the rendezvous was a mere “courtesy visit” to wish Pradyot a belated birthday — which fell on Friday — but the timing and closed‑door nature of the meeting have fueled intense political buzz, especially amid growing tensions between the two allies.
According to sources, the discreet meeting at the palace lasted over an hour. While no official details were released, insiders suggest discussions may have covered more than just birthday greetings.
Addressing reporters, Biplab Deb said, “Rohingyas have no place in our country… Illegal influx should be stopped at any cost, and we have already discussed the matter with the Centre. Like Gujarat and other states, where the government has been tough on infiltration, we in Tripura also handle the issue very strongly”

Pradyot, speaking separately, acknowledged having spoken with Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha. “The CM assured me he would take the sentiments of the tribal people seriously and raise the concerns of TMP on appropriate platforms,” he said
Responding to Ranjit Debbarma’s threat, Pradyot described it as stemming from “frustration” and a “genuine sense of disappointment and insecurity” among indigenous communities in remote areas.
