Incessant rain waterlogs several areas in Nagaland

Must read

Dimapur, July 6: Incessant rain over the past several days in Kohima, Nagaland’s capital, and Dimapur, its commercial hub, has triggered landslides and severe waterlogging in low-lying areas.

Heavy downpours throughout the day have led to widespread flooding across multiple neighbourhoods in Kohima, disrupting normal life. At least four vehicles were damaged amid the waterlogged conditions.

In Dimapur, low-lying sections—especially along Nagarjan Road—have experienced severe flooding, causing major traffic congestion. The worst-hit areas include the United Colony (Nagarjan), Sachu Colony, Zeliangrongram Colony, and Burma Camp, where floodwaters remained stagnant for most of the day.

“Flood water has inundated our locality. We are facing problems as rainwater enters our homes. We urge the concerned department to take precautionary measures to drain it,” said a local resident.

The Deputy District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has urged the public to avoid fishing, picnicking, or other water-related activities along riversides due to rising water levels. All villages located near riverbanks have also been advised to suspend such activities until the end of the monsoon season as a precautionary measure.
