TURA, April 24: As many as four people who were travelling in a Hyundai santro car have received multiple injuries after their vehicle was hit directly by a speeding truck that was fully loaded with bricks on the Rongkhon stretch of the road in Tura on Monday night.
The truck that was loaded with bricks was coming from Tura while the santro vehicle was coming up when the accident occurred at around 6 PM after the driver of the truck lost control of the vehicle.
So powerful was the force of the accident that the truck first rammed the santro car, then dashed into an electric transformer completely destroying it and bringing down naked electrical wires.

It was a saving grace for the public, including the santro passengers, as there was no electricity at the time of the accident due to load shedding and the wires that fell down were without any electrical power.
To make matters worse, there were no safety nets below the wires to prevent it from falling onto the road. Tura is filled with electric wires crisscrossing the town with no safety measurements at all in almost all junctions and localities.
It is worth mentioning that safety regulations make it mandatory for all electrical posts to have the safety nets wherever live wires are pulled, but shockingly this is absent in Tura.
With the pre-monsoon storms soon to take place, there is danger lurking across almost all localities on Tura and Garo Hills has a dark history of electrocution deaths and injuries including amputation of hands and legs of the victims of electrocution.
