Itanagar, May 28: A 14-foot-long Burmese rock python and a pangolin were successfully rescued by forest officials from Mehao Wildlife Sanctuary in Arunachal Pradesh’s Lower Dibang Valley district.
The rescue operation was made possible through the timely intervention of vigilant citizens. The forest department expressed its gratitude to Sika Pulu, a local resident, and Taba Out, a student at ITI Roing, for alerting the authorities and assisting in the rescue efforts.
Following identification, the python was safely released into a suitable habitat. Meanwhile, two bear cubs found during the operation were relocated to the Centre for Bear Rehabilitation and Conservation at Pakke Tiger Reserve for continued care and monitoring.

The operations were carried out by the rapid response team of Mehao Wildlife Sanctuary under the leadership of Range Forest Officer Kabuk Lego.
“Due to habitat fragmentation, rapid urbanization, and the impacts of climate change, instances of human-wildlife conflict are on the rise,” a forest official noted.
The official also stressed the vital role of community participation, particularly from students and citizen volunteers, in supporting wildlife conservation and environmental protection.
