Guwahati, May 28: A former student of the Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) is under police investigation after allegedly using forged academic documents to secure a job in the Arunachal Pradesh Public Works Department (PWD).
According to police sources, the individual—originally from Thrissur—submitted a doctored BTech mechanical engineering certificate that actually belonged to a friend. He reportedly altered the name and registration number to reflect his own credentials. In reality, the accused graduated in BTech Information Technology from Cusat in 2006 with good marks.
The forgery went unnoticed during the initial hiring and document verification process. However, the discrepancies came to light during a qualification verification drive launched by the Arunachal Pradesh PWD three months ago. This is the first time the department has undertaken a systematic review of employee credentials.
“As part of the process, all educational documents were sent to the respective institutions for verification. That’s when the fraud was detected,” a senior police official said.
An investigation is currently underway. Further details are awaited.
