Shillong, Aug 17: Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, on Thursday assured to address the issues of muster roll workers and mid-day meal cooks even as he shared that some issues have been resolved while others will take longer but all issues will be resolved.
Attending the 8th General Meeting of All Jaintia Muster Roll Workers and Labour Union in collaboration with the Union of Cook cum Helpers PM Poshan, Meghalaya at Madan Kawang, Ummulong on Thursday, CM Sangma directly addressed the persisting issues confronted by Muster Roll Workers due to irregular salary disbursements.
He noted that upon taking office in 2018, the administration inherited a longstanding problem of delayed payments. He acknowledged the multiple reasons behind this problem and underscored the government’s commitment to address it. To facilitate timely payments, he informed that the Finance Department was directed to provide three months’ advance payments to Departments, ensuring that salaries are delivered punctually.
He added, “This is not a one-day task and realising the ground reality it will take time to resolve it fully but I am glad that we are making these changes that are showing positive results”.
He also assured that him being part of the association’s Foundation Day is a message that the government is with muster roll workers and mid-day meal cooks.

Emphasising on the principle of prioritizing citizens’ welfare over political considerations, Sangma emphasized the need to transcend vote bank politics. He affirmed, “Our goal is to provide relief to those who have endured suffering for years. This step aligns with the State’s unwavering commitment to better the lives of its citizens.”
Assuring muster roll workers and mid-day meal cooks, the Chief Minister committed to addressing challenges related to wages, maternity leave, and other benefits. While acknowledging that not all issues from the submitted memorandum may be immediately resolved, he pledged the government’s unwavering effort to tackle them.
Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar also attended the event, reinforcing the government’s unified resolve to address issues faced by the state’s government workforce.
In addition, the Chief Minister honoured a meritorious student, the child of a muster roll worker, who achieved a rank in the SSLC examination this year.
The Chief Minister was also felicitated on the occasion by the muster roll workers for the enhancement of salary and honorarium.
