Itanagar, Oct 18: Meghalaya Chief Minister and National People’s Party (NPP) Chief, Conrad K Sangma has stressed that the Church has contributed immensely to the society in the State of Arunachal Pradesh especially in the field of education.

The Meghalaya CM on Monday paid a visit to the Bishop of Diocese of Itanagar, John Thomas Kattrukudiyil, while he is on a today-day trip to Arunachal to attend a Conclave on the theme ‘Regional Aspirations, National Outlook’, by the Arunachal unit of National People’s Party (NPP) in Itanagar on Oct 19.

“The Church has contributed immensely to the society especially in the state of Arunachal Pradesh… We have seen more than 40,000 students studying in different schools run by Catholic Mission. There is an immense contribution,” he told reporters after meeting the Bishop.

He also mentioned that his visit to the Bishop was purely personal. “I came to just to talk to them and thank them for the work they are doing for the people of Arunachal and, at the same time, to also express support from my side in any way so that we could improve the services to people and society at large. Therefore, it was a personal visit and nothing official about it,” Sangma said.

He also stated that he is “very happy and satisfied and very thankful to the Bishop and the entire Church and the mission” for the services to the people of Arunachal.
