‘Political Vacuum’ in North East which NPP must fill, stand for our people: Conrad

Itanagar, Oct 18: National President of National People’s Party (NPP) and Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma feels that there is a ‘political vacuum’ in the North Eastern region which the NPP should fill.

Speaking at the State Coordination meeting of NPP Arunachal Pradesh at Itanagar on Monday, which was attended by National Secretary James K Sangma and a host of other senior leaders of the party, Sangma talked about the “political vacuum” in the region and how NPP has become a strong political force to reckon with.


“NPP has to fill up the vacuum of political leadership in the region. We have to reach out to the people and stand for our people’s concern,” he said.

He told that party members on the core thrust of the NPP that is to always stand for the cause of the people. “We have to play a balancing role as political party by keeping the interest of our people ahead. We stand committed to our principles and will always work for the greater interest of our people,” he added.

He also said that it was important for NPP to strengthen its organisation across the country and build the party.

“We have to propagate our ideology and become a platform for our people to raise issues and concerns of our people,” NPP chief asserted.

NPP is holding a conclave in Itanagar on October 19, where people from different walks of life will participate and engage on various issues concerning the North Eastern region.

NPP is the most viable alternative political party

Speaking at the coordination meeting, James Sangma said NPP is the only national party from the region, which has become the most acceptable viable alternative political party, which is working to raise the concerns of the North Eastern region.He said that NPP as a political party is working with the core thrust to voice the regional aspirations of the Northeast and its people.


He told that the party has recently launched a frontal organisation – “NPP for Actionable Governance”, a think tank that will formulate policy and research related activities to push the agenda for development in the region.

Fight against wrong ideologies

Arunachal State President Mutchu Mithi said that Conrad K Sangma is a very prominent political face of the Northeast and his leadership will ensure that northeast grows together.“We should not spade any fight against any political parties but we have to fight against wrong ideologies. We should be committed to our own principles and work to unite people to believe in NPP’s ideologies and work in tandem to ensure that NPP further strengthens in Arunachal Pradesh”, Mutchu Mithi said.

Mithi said that NPP has formulated a strategy for Arunachal Pradesh and the party is working with rationale to reach out to the masses. “We want to lay a strong foundation of our party in Arunachal Pradesh and work with concerted effort to ensure that we become a strong political forces in the State of Arunachal,” Mithi added.
