Williamnagar, July 29: A highly decomposed body was discovered today in the deep forest near the rubber plantation at Dawa Matchakolgre, Williamnagar.
The Superintendent of Police (SP) of Williamnagar informed Hub News that due to the advanced stage of decomposition, the identity of the deceased could not be immediately ascertained. He also informed that since Williamnagar lacks its own forensic and crime scene investigation units, specialized teams have been called in from Shillong to conduct a thorough probe.
The SP further mentioned that no missing person report has been filed in East Garo Hills district, raising possibilities of foul play. He added that while it could be a case of someone deliberately disposing of the body, it is also possible that the deceased was an ailing person who collapsed in the forest. “All facts will be clear only after a proper investigation,” he said.
