Deficit teachers serve 14 days deadline to Govt

Shillong, Feb 22: The association of Deficit School teachers in Khasi and Garo Hills has threatened to agitate if the state government fails to fulfill its demands within 14 days.

President of Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers Association (KJDSTA) Kular Khongjirem said that the KJDSTA and Garo Hills Deficit School Teachers and Employees Association (GHDSTEA) has issued the government an ultimatum given the pending demands.

In a letter to the CM, the associations asserted that the government is yet to implement the recommendations of the Fifth Pay Commission with regard to Pension and Retirement benefits (Death cum Retirement Gratuity) for deficit school teachers.

The associations mentioned that till date the government has notified the release of second installment of 25 percent that was due in 2019. The associations pointed out that the teachers are waiting for the remaining 50 percent of the arrear which is to be cleared by 2021.

Again, the associations said that the draft service rules of deficit school teachers are yet to be adopted.

In this connection, the teachers have urged the government to implement the service rules at the earliest for the smooth functioning of teachers, management and government.
