Tura, Aug 20: Don Bosco College, Tura, through its Department of Physics and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), marked Indian Akshay Urja Diwas with a programme promoting awareness on renewable energy and sustainability.

The event featured a presentation by students Ibakordor Mawlieh, Amsime M. Sangma, Biplob Koch, and Nomesilche R. Marak, who highlighted the importance of clean energy and the need to reduce reliance on non-renewable resources.

College Principal Fr. Januarius S. Sangma, the Chief Guest, urged students to pursue scientific innovation and contribute to addressing challenges like climate change and energy security.

Assistant Professor Dr. Yubaraj Sharma said the initiative was meant to spark awareness rather than instant change. “These programmes give students the space to think beyond textbooks and understand real-world issues like energy sustainability,” he told Hub News, adding that more such activities are planned during the year.

Over 150 students participated in the programme, which underscored youth interest in renewable energy. Akshay Urja Diwas, observed annually on August 20, commemorates the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and is dedicated to promoting renewable energy nationwide.
