Guwahati, Oct 23: Train services on the Down line between Kokrajhar and Salakati in Assam were briefly disrupted after a late-night explosion on Wednesday damaged a section of railway track, officials said on Thursday.
According to police sources, the blast — suspected to be caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) — occurred around midnight, creating a small crater on the track and halting train movement for several hours.

Security personnel and railway engineers rushed to the spot soon after the explosion. Train services were suspended as a precautionary measure while repair work and a detailed inspection were carried out.
“We suspect it to be an IED blast. Forensic and bomb disposal teams are at the site to determine the nature of the explosion,” a police official said.
A spokesperson of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) confirmed that the damaged portion of the track has been restored. “Train movement has resumed and operations are now normal,” the official said.
