Shillong, April 11: On a track filled with roaring engines and flying mud, a group of young riders from Garo Hills made a strong national impression.
At the opening round of the FMSCI National Supercross Championship 2026 held in Shillong, six riders from the region stood out in a competitive field, securing qualification for the next round.
Chesrang M Sangma, Evander M Sangma, Balkim A Sangma, Chingku Momin, Chebat B Sangma and Walsado Sangma competed across categories ranging from novice to expert, taking on experienced riders from across the country.
Evander M Sangma delivered one of the most notable performances, finishing fifth in the highly competitive novice category. The result underlines the growing capability of riders from the region at the national level.
Supercross remains one of the most demanding formats in motorsports, requiring precision, control and endurance on tracks marked by jumps, sharp turns and uneven terrain. Competing at this level is as much about consistency as it is about speed.
All six riders have now qualified for the next round in Goa, marking a significant moment for motorsports in Garo Hills.
Organised under the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India, the championship serves as a key platform for emerging talent in India. It brings together riders from across the country, offering both exposure and competitive experience.
The performance in Shillong reflects a steady rise in interest and participation in motorsports from Meghalaya, particularly from Garo Hills. With the next round ahead, the focus now shifts to sustaining this momentum on a larger stage.
