Tura, April 10: In a story that mirrors ambition, resilience and the power of perseverance, Jisu Dasgupta, a 2008 Physics graduate of Don Bosco College, Tura, returned to his alma mater on Thursday to inspire students with his remarkable journey from a modest upbringing in Tura to the corporate corridors of the United States.
Born into a lower middle-class family and shaped by financial hardship, Dasgupta’s journey began in the classrooms of Don Bosco College. Through determination and hard work, he pursued higher studies across India before moving to the United States, where he specialised in Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics, laying the groundwork for an international career in technology.

Today, Dasgupta serves as Senior Director (IT) at Maximus, bringing with him more than a decade of experience with global firms including Accenture, IBM, and HCLTech. Despite his corporate achievements, his homecoming was defined by humility and a desire to give back.
Addressing nearly 150 students and faculty members at an interactive session organised by the college’s Department of Physics in collaboration with IQAC, Dasgupta spoke candidly about his journey from early struggles and uncertainty to leading multi-million-dollar IT transformation programmes in the US.
The programme began with a welcome address by Gaurav Biswas, followed by an address from Principal Fr. Januarius S. Sangma, who encouraged students by highlighting success stories emerging from the region.
Speaking on the evolving world of technology, Dasgupta said his work centres on “transforming how organisations deliver IT” and helping them “stop firefighting and start leading.” He stressed that “the future belongs to those who design for outcomes, not outputs,” while cautioning that many organisations are “overinvesting in tools and underinvesting in data, governance, and culture.”
Without strong foundations, he warned, AI could end up “automating the noise.”
The highlight of the event was the lively interaction session that followed, with students raising questions on higher education abroad, financial realities in the United States, the future of AI, and concerns over brain drain.
Dasgupta responded with clarity and simplicity, breaking down complex concepts into practical and relatable insights, leaving students both informed and inspired.
The session was coordinated by Dr. Yubaraj Sharma, with Dr. Arindam Ghosh introducing the speaker. It concluded with a vote of thanks by Gaurav Biswas and a group photograph.
More than just an event, the occasion marked a full-circle moment a former student returning home to remind a new generation that global success can begin in the classrooms of Tura.
