Fruit Diplomacy: Bangladesh PM gifts 400 kg of mangoes to Tripura following pineapple exchange

Tripura, June 28: In a gesture of goodwill and strengthening bilateral ties, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh gifted 400 kg of juicy ‘Haribhanga’ mangoes, 50 kg of Hilsa fish, and 50 kg of roshogollas to Tripura on Thursday. This comes just four days after Tripura’s Chief Minister Manik Saha sent 500 kg of queen pineapples to Bangladesh PM.

On June 24, 2024, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha sent the queen pineapples to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as a symbol of commitment to enhancing bilateral relations and promoting regional cooperation. The gesture was warmly reciprocated by Sheikh Hasina with a generous gift of mangoes and other delicacies.

The exchange took place at the Agartala-Akhaura Integrated Check Post, where officials from the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission received the gifts to be handed over to Tripura Chief Minister’s Office.

This tradition of fruit diplomacy between India and Bangladesh is well-established, with previous exchanges involving mangoes, pineapples, and Hilsa fish. These exchanges highlight the strong bond and mutual respect between the two nations. The queen pineapple from Tripura is celebrated for its taste and nutritional value, while the Haribhanga mangoes from Bangladesh are renowned for their sweetness and juiciness.
