Shillong, August 20: Two people, including a BSF personnel, were injured after a suspected gas cylinder blast at a house in Umpling, Lumdiengmet, on Wednesday around 10 am.
The incident is suspected to have been caused either by a gas leak or the explosion of an LPG cylinder, although police are still investigating the exact cause.
The injured personnel were identified as BSF soldiers Sandeep Kumar and Subham Cheran Momin. Both were inside the house when the blast occurred.

They were initially taken to the BSF hospital at the Umpling campus. Due to the severity of their injuries, they were later transferred to NEIGRIHMS for advanced treatment. Reports indicate that one of the BSF personnel’s condition worsened, requiring further transfer to Guwahati for specialised care.
According to sources, the blast caused significant damage to the house and surrounding structures, leaving the family shaken. The BSF personnel reportedly rushed to ensure the safety of others after detecting the gas leak prior to the explosion.

Local residents said the incident was extremely frightening, with debris scattered around the site and loud noise from the explosion alarming the entire neighborhood.
Police are currently investigating the matter to determine the precise cause of the blast.
