Guwahati, Jan 2: The third edition of the Niri9 International Film Festival will be held on January 10–11, 2025, in Hyderabad, showcasing socially relevant and internationally acclaimed cinema.
The festival will be inaugurated by the Governor of Telangana, Jishnu Dev Varma. The event will also see the presence of noted personalities including Bollywood actor Seema Biswas, singer Lou Majaw, international singer Carlyta Mouhini, and Ajit Borthakur, former Chief Justice of Guwahati High Court.
The festival has announced the critically acclaimed supernatural thriller Dahini – The Witch as the opening film of this year’s edition. Directed by Rajesh Touchriver, the film stars Tannishtha Chatterjee, J. D. Chakravarthy, and Sruthy Jayan. Dahini has garnered wide international recognition, winning Best Feature Film at the Titan International Film Festival and Best International Feature Film at the Pacific Beach International Film Festival, besides receiving a nomination at the Swedish International Film Festival. Its selection underscores Niri9’s commitment to bold storytelling with global resonance.
Among the special screenings is Kooki, directed by Pranab J. Deka. The film offers a searing examination of sexual violence and systemic failures through the experience of a teenage survivor, confronting the normalization of such crimes and amplifying voices often pushed to the margins.
The festival will also screen The Voice of Hind Rajab, directed by Kaouther Ben Hania, the Oscar-nominated filmmaker behind Four Daughters. Based on real emergency call recordings, the film documents the final moments of six-year-old Hind Rajab in Gaza.
Premiered at leading international festivals including Venice Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival, the work stands as a haunting reminder of cinema’s power to bear witness, preserve memory, and assert humanity.
