Guwahati, May 7: Guwahati Police have arrested 10 alleged members of a gang accused of carrying out dacoity, mobile tower equipment theft, warehouse robberies and vehicle hijackings across Assam.
The accused were identified as Bipul Ali, Ramjan Ali, Piro Ali, Nasir Ali, Asadur Ali, Abdul Bachik, Mohammad Ali, Shamsul Ali, Shahidur Ali and Moktul Hussain.
Police said the gang was nabbed during coordinated raids at Khanapara and a city hotel, where investigators suspect the accused had been operating from for a considerable period.
During the operation, police recovered an air gun, sharp weapons, stolen RRU equipment allegedly taken from mobile towers, and several tools believed to have been used in criminal activities.
Two four-wheelers bearing registration numbers AS01LC6337 and AS01FL0739, along with two motorcycles numbered AS15AA7378 and AS14T8879, were also seized.
According to investigators, the gang was allegedly involved in a series of organised crimes in Guwahati and other parts of the state, including theft of high-value telecom infrastructure, warehouse loot and vehicle hijacking.
Police sources said marathon interrogation of the accused is underway to trace possible interstate links and identify other members connected to the network.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Basistha Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kapil Pathak.
