Shillong, July 29: Meghalaya Cabinet Minister and BJP leader AL Hek has written to Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, requesting the immediate release of two Catholic nuns from Kerala who were arrested on July 25, at Durg Railway Station.
The arrest was based on a First Information Report (FIR) lodged by the Bajrang Dal, alleging human trafficking and forced religious conversion.
In his letter, AL Hek expressed concern over the arrest and requested Sai to take appropriate steps to investigate the matter.
“…as per telephonic discussion I had with you regarding the recent arrest of the two Nuns, I would like to request you and your good office for immediate release of the two Nuns who were arrested from Durg Railway Station on 25 July, 2025 based on the FIR lodged by the Bajrang Dal,” he wrote.
“With deep sense of concern I humbly request you and your good office for immediate release of the said nuns and to take appropriate steps to interrogate on the causes and ground effect of the matter and to the best of my knowledge and believe that the church is not doing any force conversion but given the best services to all humanity and be very thankful for your assurance to release them at the earliest,” Hek added.
Asked, Hek stated that CM Vishnu Deo Sai assured him of taking all possible steps for the nuns’ immediate release.
“The chief minister was very happy and he told me he will take all possible steps to immediate release the two nuns. That is the assurance given by the chief minister. Today, I am sending him this letter as discussed with him for the immediate release of the two nuns,” he added.
