Dibrugarh, Feb 5: In a first for Assam, Indian Air Force (IAF) fighter aircraft carrying Prime Minister Narendra Modi are set to land on a specially developed stretch of National Highway in Moran on February 14, 2026 — marking a historic milestone in the state’s strategic infrastructure development.

The 4.4-km stretch of highway has been designed as an Emergency Landing Facility (ELF), enabling fighter jets to land during emergencies or operational requirements.

This will be the first time such a facility in Assam is used for a high-profile landing, drawing widespread public attention and excitement across the region.

Ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit, extensive security and logistical preparations are underway. A high-level review meeting was convened to assess readiness for the landmark event. The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, Director General of Police Harmeet Singh, senior Indian Air Force officials, District Commissioners, and top officers from key departments.

Discussions centred on multi-layered security arrangements, traffic regulation, crowd management, and the technical coordination required for landing military aircraft on a roadway. Officials stressed the need for seamless inter-departmental coordination to ensure flawless execution.

The administration has directed all departments to remain on high alert and strictly adhere to assigned responsibilities to prevent any lapses.

Chief Secretary Ravi Kota said the Prime Minister’s visit would coincide with the formal inauguration of the 4.4-km highway developed specifically as an emergency airstrip.
“On February 14, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will come to Moran for the inauguration of the 4.4-km highway. This highway has been built for emergency purposes where Air Force fighter jets can land easily. It is a historic moment for the people of Assam,” he said.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also expressed anticipation over the event, stating that the Prime Minister would land on the Moran highway in a fighter aircraft.

The February 14 landing is expected to draw significant public interest, as Moran prepares to witness an unprecedented aviation moment on its national highway.
