Shillong, Sep 19: A day after a scuffle broke out between some students of the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) and a mob on Monday night in Hostel no.19 (Rangira). Following a minor argument, one of the students in conversation with Hub News narrated the whole incident.
Explaining the whole incident, the student said that a group of mobs was called from outside, and random students were beaten up.
Talking about him getting support from other students, he said that the mob tried to beat him and slap him, but he escaped it. He was also locked in a room because of security concerns.
He also said that around six-seven people were injured in the clash, out of which two were seriously injured and are currently undergoing treatment.
A NEHU student who escaped the assault also said that the warden and vice president, Easterson Sothun, had come following the incident.
He also said that no arrests have been made so far.
The minor argument turned into a violent clash after some Garo students were threatened and assaulted by Khasi students.
FIR IN THIS CASE
The students of Rangirra Hostel (Hostel No 19) filed a FIR in this incident at the Mawlai Police Station.
NEHUSU ON CLASH
Meanwhile, the NEHUSU have expressed their outrage over the events that occurred last night in hostel no. 19.
In the clash, hostel doors and windows were broken, car glasses were smashed, and parked vehicles were also damaged.
Following the incident, the NEHUSU has also appealed to the student community to come together in unity and gather in front of the administration block at 12 p.m. on Tuesday to demand the arrest of the culprits before the or else they will collectively shall enforce total lockdown of the university until all the culprits are arrested.
