Tinsukia, June 1: Fourteen individuals, including one from Arunachal Pradesh, were dramatically rescued on Sunday by an Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopter after being stranded in the surging waters of the Bomjir River near the Assam-Arunachal border.
Continuous heavy rainfall over the past few days has led to alarming rises in river levels across both states, prompting swift action from authorities.
The rescue operation was launched early on Sunday morning following an urgent request from Tinsukia District Commissioner Swapneel Paul. Paul received information about the trapped individuals on Saturday evening and immediately sought assistance from the IAF, while also coordinating with officials in Arunachal Pradesh’s Lower Dibang Valley district.
The successful aerial rescue, actively supported by the IAF, saw Sadiya Revenue Circle Officer Jaydeep Rajak on-site to oversee the efforts.
District Commissioner Swapneel Paul confirmed that 13 of those rescued are residents of Tinsukia district, with the fourteenth individual hailing from Arunachal Pradesh. All 14 are reported to be safe and have since returned to their homes.
