SHILLONG, DEC 5: Vice Chancellor of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Prof Uma Kanjilal has been conferred the esteemed Prof G Ram Reddy Award for Excellence in Distance Education for 2025.
The award, presented by Prof Ghanta Chakrapani, Vice-Chancellor of Dr BR Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU), recognizes Prof Kanjilal’s outstanding contributions to Open and Distance Learning (ODL), her leadership in advancing technology-driven education, and her commitment to expanding access to quality higher education in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

“Prof. Kanjilal’s contributions to distance education are a testament to IGNOU’s commitment to innovation, inclusivity, and excellence,” said Prof Ghanta Chakrapani.
The award ceremony coincided with the annual Prof G Ram Reddy Memorial Lecture, organized by BRAOU and the Prof G Ram Reddy Memorial Trust, celebrating the legacy of the renowned educationist who pioneered India’s open university system.
Prof G Ram Reddy’s visionary leadership played a pivotal role in establishing India’s first open university, Dr BR Ambedkar Open University, and later, IGNOU, where he served as the first Vice-Chancellor.
IGNOU congratulated Prof Uma Kanjilal on receiving this distinguished honor, reflecting the university’s dedication to advancing distance education.
