Imphal, July 3: Incessant rainfall has caused severe flooding at several places in Manipur’s Imphal West and Imphal East districts, after two major rivers breached embankments.
Following the flooding in several areas, the state government has declared a holiday for all government offices on Wednesday, while schools will remain closed till Thursday.
According to reports, the Imphal rivers breached its embankment at Singjamei Oinam Thingel in Imphal West, and the Kongba river at Kangba Irong and parts of Keirao in Imphal East.
The Iril river also overflowed at Sawombung and parts of Ksheteigao in Imphal East.
Several parts of the northeastern state have been lashed by heavy rain in the last few days.
Imphal East district magistrate Kh Diana also issued a flood advisory warning people of incessant rainfall in various areas of Imphal East district.
The weather department has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall with thunderstorm and lightning for the next five days in Manipur due to a cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam and its neighbouring areas.
On Tuesday afternoon, the body of a 25-year-old man, who fell into the Senapati river was retrieved by a team of the Indian Red Cross Society with the help from the locals.
