Shillong, May 19: The (JNC) Khliehriat Circle has demanded the Purbanchal Buildtech Pvt Ltd to take steps to reduce dust pollution during the ongoing construction of the National Highway – 6 in Khliehriat, the district headquarter of East Jaintia Hills.
According to them, the dust pollution has to a great extent affected the commuters, including students and local residents of region.
In a statement, the JNC said that it had also written to the deputy commissioner for issuing necessary instruction to the implementing agency to ensure regular watering of the road during the construction work to address the problem.
It said that despite the order issued by the DC, the implementing agency has failed to take up dust control measures.
“(Therefore in view of this, we met the) site engineer to demand prompt action. (We) highlighted the detrimental effects of dust on public health and daily life, insisting that our requests be addressed without delay,” the JNC said while adding that the engineer of the company has assured the delegation to ensure that watering of the road will be done twice a day.
Meanwhile, the JNC warned to take stern decision if the company fails to address the issue.
