Jowai, Sept 20: The Jaiñtia Students’ Union (JSU), Syndai Unit, on Monday conducted a search for non-tribal labourers and sought for their documents in Syndai, West Jaintia Hills district.

The search was conducted by JSU General Secretary, Heiplanmiki Tariang along with the JSU Finance Secretary and other members. On receiving information about the illegal labourers within Syndai area, the JSU Syndai Unit in the presence of the police personnel from Muktapur Police Outpost started the raid and forcefully stopped the work on finding the labourers had no proper documents.

As part of the protest in demanding Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the State and the stubbornness of the Government of India, the Union has no other option but to take action to stop influx in the State of Meghalaya, said Tariang.JSU has also issued a warning to all contractors to bring labourers who have proper documentation or else hire the local as they have the same set of skills. “They said our locals don’t have the right skills but how will they be skilled enough if they are deprived of the job,” added JSU General Secretary.

He also urged upon all the local contractors to hire locals so as to cope with the unemployment issue in the state.
