KHADC CEM clarifies secretary suspension, denies link to standing counsel resignation

Must read

Shillong, Mar 31: Opposition leader in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Titosstarwell Chyne today sought clarification on the suspension of the council’s secretary, following a meeting with Chief Executive Member (CEM) Winston Tony Lyngdoh.

“We sought clarification regarding the suspension of the Secretary of KHADC,” Chyne said after the meeting.

According to CEM, the suspension was due to procedural lapses in the office, specifically bypassing the executive committee or executive member in-charge in approving a PIL to be filed in the High Court.

“The CEM has clarified that there is a procedural lapse in the office regarding the approval of the PIL… they have taken it as a serious lapse and suspended the secretary for two weeks,” Chyne quoted Lyngdoh as saying. The secretary is expected to rejoin duty on April 2.

Chyne said the opposition also sought clarification on whether an inquiry had been initiated against the secretary. “An inquiry has been constituted and officers from the council are heading the inquiry,” Lyngdoh told the opposition delegation.

Regarding the resignation of the standing counsel, Lyngdoh said it was based on personal grounds and unrelated to the PIL or the secretary’s suspension.

“The standing counsel’s resignation was based on his personal ground and has nothing to do with the PIL or any lapse or with the suspension of the secretary,” Lyngdoh was quoted as saying.
