Life has to go on: Dr Warr on opening State for tourism

Shillong, Sept 2: With tourism opened in Meghalaya, concerns have been raised if there’s a threat of COVID-19 cases increasing. However, Meghalaya Director of Health Services (DHS) Dr Aman Warr feels that life has to go on.

Dr Warr said people have to carry on with their means of livelihood; hence the government is opening more activities across the State.

“The three cardinal instructions has to be followed. Mask, hand sanitization and social distancing are the key points,” said Dr Warr.

He added that vaccination is the major role this time and that a second thought about it has to be kept aside.

Dr Warr also mentioned that in East Khasi Hills 52 percent have been vaccinated and 57 percent in Garo Hills. The health workers are doing their level best to carry-out the vaccination drive.

He added that the health department is looking out and watching the other states. They are ensuring that they don’t make the same mistakes.

Concerning those who have been fully vaccinated, Dr Warr mentioned that they are following the instructions as given. “If we have to go for any booster, that instruction will come accordingly from the Central Government,” he said.

Meanwhile, Meghalaya on Wednesday reported 264 fresh COVID-19 cases, pushing the tally to 76,100, a health department official said.

The death toll has increased to 1,315 as four more people succumbed to the infection during the day.

Warr said all the four who succumbed to the infection were not vaccinated against COVID-19.
