Imphal, Aug 18: After the appeal for help sent by the Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF), the health ministry of Mizoram has donated medicines and medical supplies worth Rs. 5000,000 to the Lamka district hospital in Churachandpur district, Manipur.
Due to the shortage of medical supplies in Lamka district hospital, the ITLF on July 28,2023 requested Mizoram government for providing medical supplies.
The Mizoram health department has provided more than Rs 200,000 worth of dialysis consumables to be used by chronic kidney disease patients.
Money for the supplies include Rs 200,000 donated by several doctors.
The ITLF expressed gratitude to the Mizoram government and the people of the state for their unwavering support of the Kuki-Zo tribals in Manipur in our hour of need.
The ethnic-violence has ravaged many parts of Manipur. The people are suffering due to shortages of medical supplies.
“The violence affected people who were admitted at hospitals in Manipur are having problems due to shortage of medical supplies. Thanks to the Mizoram government for helping us in this crisis situation. We are grateful to the Mizoram government,” said a leader of ITLF.
At least 150 people have been killed and over 400 people injured in the violence that began on May 3, 2023.
More than 60,000 people have been forced to flee from their homes as the army, parliamentary forces and police struggle to quell violence.
Police armouries have been looted, hundreds of churches and more than a dozen temples ruined, and villages destroyed, so far.
