Shillong, Aug 18: Meghalaya Government is looking to strengthen regional connectivity to facilitate trade and commerce with neighbouring countries by developing better infrastructures at its land custom stations. The state is targeting to tap into the South East Asian countries trade market to boost its economy and revenue via increased export to these countries.

“We are developing an export strategy to tap opportunities for Meghalaya products for exports, strategizing the creation of infrastructure in land custom stations including cold storages, cargo aggregation and a digitised trade system,” Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma tweeted after meeting with officials on Friday.
The State is looking to strengthen connectivity between Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, and Nepal (BBIN) to foster economic growth in the region through the intervention of UNESCAP.

“Meghalaya with its close proximity to the nations can be a gateway to facilitate trade & commerce including export and imports from Bangladesh,” he said.
He said the meeting also discussed capacity building by learning from best practices on international trade and commerce and implement the same model in the State.
He further discussed the framework to attract investments in Meghalaya, develop infrastructure and create avenues for businesses from the state to flourish.
