Manipur blast case handed to NIA after deaths of two children; 2 killed in Bishnupur clash

Imphal, April 7: The Manipur government has decided to hand over the investigation into the Tronglaobi bomb attack, which killed two children early Tuesday, to the National Investigation Agency, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh said.

Condemning the attack as a “heinous act,” the Chief Minister said preliminary indications suggest the involvement of elements attempting to disrupt the fragile peace in the state. The decision to transfer the case to the central agency was taken after consultations with the Home Minister and MLAs.
Security forces have launched a massive combing operation to trace those responsible.

Personnel from the state police, Assam Rifles and Central Reserve Police Force have been deployed, with aerial surveillance also being carried out using helicopters. “The culprits will be caught at the earliest,” Singh said.

A high-level security review meeting involving the Army, Assam Rifles, state police and CRPF has directed intensified operations and swift action on the ground.

Appealing for calm, the Chief Minister urged citizens not to be swayed by emotions and to cooperate with security forces to restore normalcy.

State Home Minister Konthoujam Govindas Singh said such attacks are the work of “peace disruptors” seeking to derail improving conditions. He added that state commandos have been redeployed in hill areas after a long gap, supported by bulletproof vehicles.

Meanwhile, violence flared in Bishnupur district where protesters attempted to storm a CRPF camp.

Security forces opened fire, leaving five people injured, of whom two later died. Several others sustained minor injuries.

The Chief Minister and the Home Minister visited the injured at Raj Medicity hospital in Imphal.

Singh also expressed grief over the death of a minor girl at the Akampat relief camp and announced ex gratia assistance and support for the affected families.
