Imphal, Jan 29: Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on Friday kick started 14 developmental projects, including Phase 1 of the Tamenglong drinking water supply project, and laid foundation stones for another eight projects in Tamenglong district.

In a Twitter post, CM Biren Singh said the water project was “one of the most ambitious schemes taken up by the state government under ‘Go to Hills’ mission with an aim to provide safe drinking water to every household in Tamenglong district”.

Singh also thanked the Prime Minister Narenda Modi for taking the initiative to provide safe drinking water to every rural household in the state under the Jal Jeevan Mission.

The water reservoir, constructed at two sites at Tamenglong district headquarters, has a capacity to store over 80 million litres of drinking water.

The project will provide sufficient safe drinking water to locals across the district and resolve water scarcity issues during the non-rainy season.

The water project was started in the 2018 at a cost of Rs 38.96 crore under the Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR) Scheme under the Ministry of Development of Northeastern Region (DoNER).
