Imphal, Jan 5: At least two persons were injured after three improvised explosive device (IED) blasts rocked Manipur’s Bishnupur district in the early hours of Monday, triggering panic among residents.

The injured have been identified as Soibam Sanatombi (52), son of late S. Angoubi of Saiton Makha Leikai, and Nongthombam Indubala (37), wife of late N. Bishworjit of Saiton Heiyaikon Maning Leikai. Both were rushed to Bishnupur District Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.

According to reports, the first two explosions occurred between 5:40 am and 5:55 am, jolting locals out of their sleep. A third blast was reported around 8:30 am, approximately 200 metres from the earlier blast site.

Police said the explosives were planted at an abandoned house belonging to Salam Manipur (70), who is currently staying at a relief camp. The house is located in the Saiton–Nganukon area under Phougakchao police station.

“We have collected samples from the blast sites and launched an investigation. Two people were injured in the incident,” a police official said.

Meanwhile, security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a massive search operation to prevent further incidents.
