Guwahati, Nov 13: Assam Police on Wednesday arrested a third-year MBBS student of Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital (LMCH) on charges of attempted molestation and sexual assault.
The accused has been identified as Susheel Kumar, a resident of Bihar.
According to police, Kumar allegedly tried to sexually assault a fellow female student and batchmate inside a toilet at the medical college.

“Susheel Kumar forced his way into the toilet and attempted to sexually assault her by locking the door from inside. The girl managed to escape and informed her family members,” a police official said.
Following the incident, the victim’s family lodged an FIR at the Lilabari police outpost, leading to the immediate arrest of the accused.
A relative of the victim alleged that Kumar had been stalking her during the examination period and followed her to the women’s toilet before the incident occurred.

“We have arrested the accused, who is a third-year MBBS student at LMCH. Based on the complaint filed by the victim’s family, we have initiated interrogation,” the police official added.
The incident has sparked concern and outrage among LMCH students, particularly female students, who have expressed fear and demanded stronger campus security measures.
