Shillong, Sept 15 : Meghalaya Assembly witnessed dramatic scenes on Wednesday as the opposition Congress staged a walk out from the House after a motion for discussion on the need to take action against the officers involved in the killing of former general secretary of HNLC Cherishstarfield Thangkhiew was disallowed.

The opposition members shouted slogans like ‘down down MDA,  down down Lahkmen Rymbui’ through the corridors of the Assembly as they walked out of the House.

Raising a point of order, Mawlai MLA PT Sawkmie asked the Speaker to allow the special motion but this was disallowed by Speaker and Chief Minister by saying that the matter is sub- judice following the formation of judicial inquiry.

The Opposition, however,  referred to the reply of Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Tuesday on the matter though the matter was sub-judice.

Meanwhile, KHNAM legislator Adelbert Nongrum remained in the House as he had to move a resolution on Covid issue.
