Meghalaya boy Himan Phukan called up for trials by Mumbai Indians

Shillong, Nov 12: After impressing in matches played during the recent Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament, Meghalaya leg spinner Himan Phukan has been called up by the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Mumbai Indians for trials. As per reports, the 23-year-old will depart on November 13 for Mumbai.

Hub News got in touch with Himan, who shared his emotions and expressed happiness over the call up.

Phukan said, “The feeling is surreal for me as I never expected to get this call so early in my cricketing life. This was my debut season in the tournament and as of now, I have played 2 matches. So, yes, I’m looking forward to it.”

On the other hand, informing the development, the manager of the Meghalaya team during the tour, Chiang D Shira, expressed his happiness and surprise at the call he received from the Mumbai talent scout.

“We had finished our tour and were on our way to Hyderabad airport from Vijayawada. I received a phone call from a person identifying himself as a Mumbai Indian (MI) talent scout. The scout said that he was present on the ground when we played Arunachal Pradesh on the last day and that he and his team were impressed by Himan’s performance,” Shira said.

Phukan is set to appear for the trials in Mumbai on November 14.
