Williamnagar, Feb. 13: Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K. Sangma on Friday inaugurated the District Emporium of Williamnagar in East Garo Hills.
The event was attended by local MLA and Cabinet Minister Marcuise N. Marak, Deputy Commissioner R.P. Marak, Superintendent of Police Stephen Rynjah, officials of the District Commerce and Industries Centre (DCIC), and representatives from various departments.

The General Manager of the District Commerce and Industries Centre, Moshe R. Marak, delivered the welcome address.
He expressed his sincere gratitude to the Chief Minister for taking the time to inaugurate the emporium.
He also thanked Cabinet Minister Marcuise N. Marak, the Deputy Commissioner, and other officials for their constant support and cooperation in making the project a reality.
Speaking as the Guest of Honour, Marcuise N. Marak commended the efforts of the General Manager, Moshe R. Marak, for spearheading the establishment of the emporium.
He stated that this initiative marks a significant step forward for Williamnagar, as it will not only promote local craftsmanship but also provide tourists with an opportunity to purchase authentic mementos that reflect the culture and identity of the region.

He emphasized that the emporium will serve as a platform for local artisans to showcase and sell their products, thereby boosting the local economy. He also appreciated all officials and stakeholders who contributed to the successful completion of the project.
He further remarked that under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, Meghalaya has witnessed steady progress. Since assuming office in 2018, the Chief Minister has worked with a clear vision for the holistic development of the state, ensuring coordination across departments.
Over the past several years, visible changes and improvements have been seen across Meghalaya.
Before addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma expressed his appreciation to the DCIC trainees for presenting one of his late father P.A. Sangma’s favourite songs, “Nitoa A·chik A·song.”
He fondly shared the history of the song and spoke about how his father loved it deeply and even suggested changes to its lyrics.
In his address, the Chief Minister congratulated the General Manager and the entire team for taking the initiative to establish the emporium.

He stated that the facility would greatly benefit the youth, Self-Help Groups (SHGs), artisans, and families who rely on local production for their livelihood. He elaborated on his government’s broader vision to transform Meghalaya into a 10-billion-dollar economy by strengthening local industries, entrepreneurship, and rural development.
Following the formal inauguration, a large number of visitors toured the emporium and began purchasing locally produced goods, marking a promising start for the new establishment.
