Meghalaya CM says Govt to take action on RSS leader’s divisive remarks

Must read

SHILLONG, FEB 26: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has said the government is taking steps to address the RSS leader’s derogatory remarks, emphasizing that the law will take its course.

“We are aware about it and steps are being taken… the Deputy Chief Minister is aware about it,” Sangma said. “Any individual, especially people of the Christian faith, will definitely be angry about a statement like this.”

Sangma urged restraint, saying, “As Christians, we believe in forgiveness. I’m not saying we forget, but I don’t want anybody to react from our side. We will take our steps from the government point of view.”

The CM called the remark “derogatory” and “dividing society,” adding, “The individual concerned will have to make a retracting statement or apologize for what he said.”

Sangma assured that the government supports all communities and faiths. “We have been supporting all communities, all faiths, and all sections of society,” he said, citing initiatives for indigenous faiths.

“This statement is completely unacceptable, it’s instigating and tries to divide society,” Sangma said, demanding an apology. “Government will take necessary steps to ensure such statements are not made.”
