Must read

Shillong, Jan 29: The Meghalaya Football Association (MFA) announced that it will launch a Shillong-based football academy, reinforcing its commitment to strengthening grassroots football development in the state.

The MFA Academy, the association said in a statement, will focus on structured training, long-term player development, and creating a clear pathway for young footballers in Meghalaya to progress through the state and national football ecosystem.

As part of the initiative, the MFA will conduct open trials to identify promising talent among boys born between 2013 and 2016, who will be inducted into the academy.

The trials are scheduled to be held on February 6, 2026, at the MFA Turf, Third Ground, Polo, starting from 9 am. Interested players are required to report on time and must carry a valid birth certificate for age verification.

For further information, applicants may contact +91 9863097780 or +91 9863771858.

Officials said that while Meghalaya already has several football academies run by clubs and private entities, the launch of a dedicated MFA Academy is expected to bring a more centralised and focused approach to talent development. The initiative aims to nurture players from age-group levels to the senior state team, as Meghalaya looks to strengthen its presence in Indian football.
