Shillong, Nov 25: The Meghalaya High Court has adjourned hearing a case related to the proposed relocation of 342 families of Harijan Colony from Them Iew Mawlong.
Upon the request of the parties, the single bench headed by Justice B Bhattacharjee in its order passed on November 19, directed that the matter be listed after three weeks “to await the outcome of a connected case pending before the Division Bench of the High Court.”
On October 17, the division bench had allowed the state government and the Harijan Panchayat Committee to explore settlement through negotiation and mediation.

“…We hope and trust that within the aforesaid time, good sense shall prevail and the parties shall make earnest efforts to settle the disputes amicably,” the division bench had stated.
Notably, Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Urban Affairs Sniawbhalang Dhar had on October 10, informed that the state government has identified few locations for the proposed relocation of Harijan colony.
