Shillong summit to bring together Union Ministers, Northeast Chief Ministers, investors and industry leaders on June 11–12
New Delhi, May 15: Meghalaya on Friday showcased its fast-growing economy, expanding infrastructure network and rising investment potential during the curtain raiser of the North East India Infrastructure Summit & Exhibition (NEIINFRA) 2026 held at Meghalaya House in New Delhi.
The summit, scheduled to be held in Shillong on June 11 and 12, is expected to bring together five Union Ministers, Chief Ministers of all Northeastern states, policymakers, investors, infrastructure developers, financial institutions and industry leaders to deliberate on connectivity, investment and regional growth.

Speaking at the curtain raiser event at Meghalaya House in New Delhi, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said Meghalaya’s economy has doubled over the past five years, while capital investment has increased fourfold since 2018.
“Meghalaya has been consistently growing at the same pace for the last three to four years, which is important for investor confidence,” he said.
Secretary, Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER), Sanjay Jaju, praised Meghalaya’s development trajectory and reiterated the Centre’s support for infrastructure-led growth in the Northeast.

Referring to the region as “Ashtalakshmi”, he said the Northeast occupied a central place in India’s development vision and described Meghalaya and Shillong as emerging hubs for investment, tourism and entrepreneurship.
Officials said Meghalaya is the only state in the country to sustain nearly 10 per cent real GSDP growth for three consecutive years after the pandemic. The state’s economy has expanded from Rs 29,508 crore in 2018 to nearly Rs 60,000 crore in FY 2024-25, with a target of reaching Rs 1.35 lakh crore by 2032.
Sangma said the state has rolled out fresh incentives under its industrial promotion policy to attract investors and strengthen the startup ecosystem.
He also highlighted Meghalaya’s expanding IT sector, saying the first IT Park was already functioning at full capacity, while the upcoming second IT Park had received strong interest from national and global companies.
Meghalaya also used the event to showcase its tourism and creative economy ambitions, pointing to Shillong’s growing identity as India’s music capital and the Living Root Bridges being India’s sole nomination for the UNESCO World Heritage List for 2026.

The state is also set to host the 39th National Games in 2027.
According to officials, the summit is expected to see participation from ministries dealing with road transport, civil aviation, tourism, ports and shipping, commerce and industry, and communications.
Union ministers expected to attend include Nitin Gadkari, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Sarbananda Sonowal and Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.
The summit is being organised by FINER in association with Build India Foundation.
