Shillong, Sept 27: A Meghalaya police team from East Khasi Hills have arrested a fraudster from Jharkhand and is likely to be brought here on a remand transit.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Sylvester Nongtnger informed the arrested individual has been identified as Ibrahim Ansari (59) and a resident of Senha village, Muslim Mohalla, Lohardaga district, Jharkhand.
He was arrested based on a police complaint filed at the Rynjah PS vide Case No. 138(08)2024. Ansari used a pseudonym (Abhishek Kumar Yadav) and falsely claimed to be an Assistant Area Manager at KFC.
He lured a victim to invest in a fake investment worth Rs. 19,27,000. Believing the offer to be legitimate, the complainant paid the first instalment on June 14 and subsequent payments over the following weeks. The last instalment was paid on 6th August 2024.
However, the complainant discovered that Abhishek Kumar Yadav was not affiliated with KFC and had duped him. Based on the complaint, the police launched an investigation and zeroed in on Ansari in Jharkhand.
“The investigation is still underway, with efforts focused on identifying and apprehending additional suspects involved in this case,” the SP informed.
