SHILLONG, DEC 19: With the upcoming festive season expected to bring increased movement of vehicles and pedestrians, commuters in Shillong are advised to follow traffic regulations to ensure safety and smooth flow of vehicular traffic.

Key advisories include expecting heavy traffic congestion near markets, shopping areas, places of worship and event venues, using public transport wherever possible, avoiding roadside parking, and using designated parking areas.

Pedestrians are advised to avoid jaywalking and use footpaths and designated crossings.

“Drive responsibly: do not drink and drive. Avoid accidents and secure one’s life by not over-speeding. Ensure to wear helmets and seatbelts at all times and drive/ride cautiously,” Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, Vivek Syiem said.

Shillong Traffic Police (STP) shall conduct vigorous checking for Motor Vehicle Act violations, and may divert vehicular movement around Police Bazaar and Laitumkhrah area depending on the traffic situation.

“Your cooperation will help ensure a safe, smooth, and joyful festive season for everyone,” Syiem added, wishing the people of East Khasi Hills a safe and happy festive season.
