Meghalaya Police registers case for spreading misinformation on Covid-19 vaccination

Shillong, July 6: Meghalaya Police have registered a case against an individual for spreading misinformation on the efficacy of Covid-19 vaccination.

East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police (SP), Sylvester Nongtnger on Tuesday informed that a case has been registered at Sadar Police Station and legal necessary action is being undertaken against the accused.

He said an FIR was received by the East Khasi Hills District Police that one person has been circulating a video on YouTube which has spread misinformation on the efficacy of the Covid-19 vaccination amongst people. The actions of the accused are in violation to the Order of the High Court of Meghalaya, dated 23.06.2021 under Section 54 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 and the Epidemic Diseases Act 1897.

Further, he urged people to refrain from putting up such videos of misinformation in order to avoid legal action.
