Shillong, Jun 30: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday said Maharashtra has agreed to allot land for a new Meghalaya House in Navi Mumbai at the government rate of Rs 7 crore instead of the market rate of Rs 90 crore, and Telangana has also committed land for a similar facility in Hyderabad.
Speaking to reporters, Sangma said the new facilities would be “public-oriented” and cater primarily to students, patients and other residents travelling to metro cities.
“The government of Maharashtra has agreed to give land to the government of Meghalaya for the construction of a new Meghalaya House. The land, which is new, had a market rate of Rs 90 crore. I had appealed and requested the Chief Minister if that land could be given to us at the government rate, which is Rs 7 crore,” Sangma said.
He added, “I am happy to inform that the Government of Maharashtra is giving us the land not at Rs 90 crore or the market rate. I am sure that this new land, which we are getting in Maharashtra on the Navi Mumbai side, will be of great benefit to our people, and we expect that we will be able to create a larger public area there.”
The Chief Minister said he has directed officials to focus on public use. “I have been very clear with my team that this should be more of a public-oriented Meghalaya House, more towards a guest house, more towards allowing students, patients, and other people who require that place to come in,” he said. “I expect that process also to close very soon. But again, this is good news for us.”

Sangma also announced that Telangana has agreed to provide land in Hyderabad. “During my recent visit to Hyderabad, I got an opportunity to meet the Chief Minister of Telangana. I have also written a letter and appealed to him that the Government of Telangana could give land for a Meghalaya House in Hyderabad, because Hyderabad is one of the metro cities and a large number of our population is there,” he said.
“I am very happy to inform you that the Chief Minister has agreed to give land to Meghalaya in Telangana, in Hyderabad, for the construction of a Meghalaya House. We should be getting the written response very soon. Verbally, he has given commitment to us, and the terms and conditions also, I am very hopeful, will be very favorable for us. I do not want to share them right now, but once we get the formal letter, I will share the details,” he added.
Listing ongoing and upcoming projects, Sangma said, “Definitely it is a very positive step where another new Meghalaya House, apart from Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh, and in Bangalore where we will be finishing renovation of the new Meghalaya House, and the new land in Navi Mumbai, new land in Hyderabad, and also the construction of the new Meghalaya House in Vellore will also take place. The work for that is also going to start.”
He said the existing space in Vellore would be converted into a rented guest house area while construction begins. “We are going to shift the existing space into a guest house area which we will take on rent, and we will quickly construct the house,” Sangma said.
“These five new projects under Meghalaya House for the people of our state who normally go to these different locations will be deeply benefited from this new infrastructure coming up in different states and different parts of the country,” he added.
